Substack Editor Guide

Overview

The Substack Editor Guide is a text‑based instructional document (ID 01KBGG62J8WJNTAR8GCA7RNS8G) created by Substack on 15 December 2017. It is stored in the chartbook‑3 repository and was ingested into the PINAX archival system. The guide is written in English and is available in plain‑text format; an accompanying HTML version (18877889.how‑to‑use‑the‑substack‑editor.html) is also archived. The document contains step‑by‑step instructions for composing and publishing newsletter posts using Substack’s rich‑text editor.

Background

Substack is a platform that enables writers to publish newsletters directly to subscribers and the web. The guide was produced to help new and existing users understand the editor’s features, formatting options, and publishing workflow. It reflects the editor’s state as of late 2017, prior to subsequent interface updates.

Contents

The guide covers:
  • Formatting options: bold, italic, links, block quotes, headings, and paragraph styles.
  • Embedding media: images (drag‑and‑drop or selector), tweets, YouTube and Vimeo videos, Spotify albums, and Soundcloud tracks.
  • Publishing options: “Publish” (web‑only) and “Publish & Send” (web + email).
  • Post settings: access to the settings button, delete button, and backdating feature.
  • Support contact: email address hello@substack.com for user assistance.
The document is structured as a concise reference manual, with no discussion of advanced or deprecated features.

Scope

The guide is limited to the Substack editor’s core functionality as of 15 December 2017. It does not address later interface changes, API usage, or third‑party integrations beyond the media types listed. The material is intended for English‑speaking users of the Substack platform and is freely accessible through the archived repository, with no stated copyright restrictions.
