Alan Turing was a British mathematician and computer scientist. He created the Turing machine concept, which became the foundation of modern computing. During World War II, he worked at Bletchley Park cracking the Enigma cipher. He proposed the Turing test as a measure of machine intelligence. He was born in London in 1912 and studied at Cambridge University. His work on computability influenced the development of early digital computers.
