Curiously, Mercedes-Benz Museum documents listed this 540K as first entering the Classic collection in 1955. Intrigued, Hettich then unearthed the old chassis in the museum storage facilities. A jumble of dusty wooden boxes were piled nearby. Investigating, he discovered the boxes were full of what appeared to be parts for a Mercedes-Benz 540K. What’s more, the part numbers matched those on original production records for the nearby chassis. Postponed from 1938 (likely due to the Sudetenland crisis) to the fall of 1939 (September). Then cancelled due to the outbreak of the war. Intended for 400 cars and motorcycles. It was modeled after the "2000-Kilometer-Fahrt" a reliability ride (with no stop) that was run in 1933 and 1934. A modernist painter, she is known for her <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Realism_(arts)">realist</a> works and self-portraits, and also for her landscapes and still lifes. Throughout her long life, her work changed dramatically beginning with French-influenced realism and plein air painting. It gradually evolved towards portraits and still life paintings. At the beginning of her career she often produced historical paintings, such as the <em>Wounded Warrior in the Snow</em> (1880), <em>At the Door of Linköping Jail in 1600</em> (1882) and <em>The Death of Wilhelm von Schwerin</em> (1886). Historical paintings were usually the realm of male painters, as was the experimentation with modern influences and French radical naturalism. The light is even, which emphasises the intensity of saturation.
