Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania Faculty Meeting Minutes and Records Collection, 1850‑1864

Overview

The collection is a bound minute book (213 pages, 18.5 × 23.2 cm) that records the deliberations of the faculty of the Female (later Woman’s) Medical College of Pennsylvania from its founding on 25 June 1850 through 8 October 1864. Digitized as high‑resolution TIFF and JPEG images, the volume is housed in the Drexel Legacy Collections (Accession ACC‑092) and is available via the PINAX portal.

Background

Founded in Philadelphia, the college was the world’s first institution to regularly train women for the medical profession. The faculty, led by deans such as Nathaniel R. Moseley and later Edwin Fussell, met to adopt by‑laws, set curricula, manage finances, and oversee student examinations. The minute book reflects the early administrative history of women’s medical education in the United States and is part of the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania Dean’s Office Records.
